Behind the paint brushes of talented scenic artists is the power to create the visually stunning and immersive environments that bring a story to life! Whether they are creating an elaborate backdrop or simply aging a prop, they use their knowledge of color theory and the tricks of the trade to create perspective and realistic textures.

This year at Tuacahn we are extremely lucky to have with us Scenic Charge Artist Bethany Elliot. Read on to learn a bit more about Bethany!

  1. How long have you worked at Tuacahn?

This is my second year with Tuacahn. The Hunchback of Notre Dame was my first contract here.

  1. What do you do for Tuacahn?

This year I am the Scenic Charge Artist for Anastasia and Frozen. I work alongside my Paints Supervisor, Russ Saxton, to coordinate and complete all of the paint treatments for these shows. The Scenic Designer creates color renderings of each set piece in the show, and I work to pick color palettes and techniques that best recreate the designer’s vision.

  1. What is your favorite part of working at Tuacahn?

The people here at Tuacahn are what make Tuacahn a really magical place. Everyone I work with is not only friendly and caring, but extremely talented as well. As an artist, I feel very fortunate to get to work with very talented and well-known designers who create gorgeous designs that are so rewarding to recreate for the huge Tuacahn stage. Also, the views of the canyon from the shop also make Tuacahn a dream work environment. I could go on and on; I have so many “favorites” when it comes to Tuacahn!

  1. Something fun about you/something that people might not know.

I am based in Kansas City, Missouri where I also work as a freelance muralist and interior decorative painter. I have painted everything from the side of a building to the ceiling in a nursery! I love using my skillset to help transform the walls of homes and businesses so that people can have a unique and personalized space. I have found that I love making art in a collaborative environment. Whether that be on stage working with a designer or on residential jobs working with a homeowner, there is so much joy to be had in making art that is created with collaboration and comradery.
