Taking the first steps toward 2023
Even while audiences are still reveling in the magic of the 2022 Broadway season at Tuacahn, behind the scenes, there is already a flurry of activity to get the ball rolling for 2023.
Kicking off with an event Tuacahn hopes will become an annual tradition, the new season reveal party on Sept. 16 was a big success, unveiling the lineup for 2023 to include Roald Dahl’s Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Tarzan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.
“The patrons and donors at the event were excited about the season and they loved seeing some of this year’s actors perform music from the upcoming season,” said Stephanie Finck, marketing director for Tuacahn.
Season packages were sold on site at the reveal party and will go on sale to the public during Tuacahn’s Black Friday Sale starting Nov. 18.
Now that the musicals have been selected and revealed, many of the first steps in the process backstage fall under the purview of Jonathan Katzias, production manager, who is responsible for overseeing all the technical elements at Tuacahn.

“Right now we’re in negotiations with creative teams and directors,” Katzias said. “We want to find the best teams of directors, choreographers, scenic designers, etc. to bring these amazing shows to life.”
Questions like, “How many ways is Tarzan going to fly?” and “Will there be a chocolate river?” are just a few of the ideas being tossed around as Katzias and his colleagues consider how to marry logistical realities with their creative dreams.
“We’re looking at schedules, mass hirings, creating and evaluating designs, and figuring out the priorities, all while keeping the current shows running smoothly this year,” Katzias said.

It’s a big job, but it’s all part of the magic of live theater.
