Have you met Hafen?

Whether you’ve been around for years, or are just new to the area, we like to consider everyone a part of the Tuacahn family. But it feels like it’s been a while since we introduced ourselves. In fact, it’s possible you haven’t heard about everyone in the Tuacahn Center for the Arts world yet.

Yep, I’m the little brother to my big sister Outdoor Amphitheatre.

You’ve probably met the biggest child in our crew. Outdoor Amphitheatre. We’re pretty proud of her. For the last 25 years she’s been home to so many Broadway-level productions and hosted a myriad of concerts and special events, making a million memories for people from around the globe. She’s complete with state-of-the-art technology and can seat a little more than 2,000 people! And the view…well, words just don’t do it justice. You simply must see for yourself. She’s the crown jewel in our red rock royalty.

But did you know Outdoor Amphitheatre has a sibling? A little brother, actually. His name is Hafen Theatre and since he’s lesser known, they’re developing a bit of a sibling rivalry. It’s silly, really, because we know Hafen Theatre offers all the same amazing professional talent, beautiful scenery and incredible production value as Outdoor Amphitheatre, but not everyone has met Hafen. So, we want to introduce you.

Indoor Hafen Theatre

Hi! Hafen Theatre here. Yep, I’m the little brother to my big sister Outdoor Amphitheatre. It’s great to meet you!

I’m a 427-seat proscenium theater with all the sounds, lights and video capabilities a professional theater needs. Sure, I’m smaller than my big sister, but that just means I’m exclusive. And I pack a bigger punch!

The whole Center for the Arts family has been around more than 25 years. I was built in 1995 and they used me for a few shows in the early days. But it wasn’t until 2010 that I was really given the chance to shine!

I’m a full-fledged professional theater and when Tuacahn uses me as part of its spring, summer, fall or winter lineups, I am home to the same level of professional actors, directors and set designers as Outdoor Amphitheatre. I’m just a little smaller. And indoors. And air conditioned. And exclusive. I could go on and on.

The whole Center for the Arts family has been around more than 25 years.

Actually, Outdoor Amphitheater and I have a really great relationship. In fact, we share some of the same actors in our shows. Like last year, Caitlyn Caughell played the lead female role of Mercedes in The Count of Monte Cristo in Outdoor Amphitheatre during the summer, and then she played the mother in A Christmas Story the Musical in my theater in December. It happens a lot. And the actors always seem to like both of us for different reasons. Audiences do too. It’s two totally different experiences, but both absolutely amazing.

Mom and Dad won’t ever admit to having a favorite between me and my sister, but there are a few things I know they like about me — Hafen Theatre.

  • Temperature controlled.
I’ll say it again, because it’s true. I am warm in the winter, cool in the summer. Perfectly comfortable and I don’t have to worry about wind or rain.
  • All the seats are close to the action.
I’ll admit, there’s not a bad seat in Outdoor Amphitheatre, but in my 427-seat theater everything is closer. More intimate. You’re never more than 14 rows from the action on the main floor. And five rows in the balcony.
  • Recently remodeled.
I’m not even that old, but I’ve already had a face lift. A full upgrade to improve the lighting, acoustics, LED projection and sound system. And new seats. They like to keep me — and you — comfortable.

I’m proud to be part of Tuacahn Center for the Arts family. And no matter which theater you choose, you’re bound to have a fabulous time. But come visit me. I just know you’ll be glad you did.

This year’s Hafen Theatre musicals are Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story June 24 to Aug. 13 and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Nov. 25 to Dec. 22. For tickets and information call 435-652- 3300 or log onto www.tuacahn.org
