Did you know the crown jewel of Tuacahn’s Christmas in the Canyon is all done by volunteers? Yep, every night in the outdoor Amphitheatre the live nativity is performed by someone new who learned the ropes just hours before your arrival.

Each night’s cast for the live nativity includes 30-50 people which are provided by volunteer groups. The groups range from families to church groups and special performances done by Green Valley Stake Special Needs Activity Program.
…it has become a tradition many families cherish.
Each group arrives a couple of hours before showtime and are brought backstage to the Tuacahn costume department to get outfitted for the night’s performances. After they are ready with period accurate clothing they are brought to the stage and walk through their role for the show.

Every year the live nativity is directed by Heidi Anderson, the sister of Tuacahn’s Artistic Producer Scott Anderson. She makes sure everything looks good and the cast knows what to do.
It’s showtime! There are two performances each night that the cast get to perform in. The shining moments start at 7:00pm and 8:15pm.
The next night the process starts all over again with new volunteers.

As this experience is highly coveted, the list of volunteers fills up by March each year. Whether it is participating in or watching the live nativity, it has become a tradition many families cherish.
